Ribbed Hat

For my other half’s birthday I decided to make him something and as it was getting cold – I thought a hat and scarf set would be ideal. Let’s ignore the fact that he doesn’t really feel the cold. I was stuck between a cable hat and a ribbed hat but with some careful questioning I found out that he preferred the look of the rib hat. I followed Love Crochet’s* pattern helpfully named “The Man Hat” – I find men’s patterns harder to come by.

For the hat, I decided to go with Stylecraft’s Life Aran* in Charcoal. It is so nice to work with and very soft (at least to me – some people can’t stand wool), I am planning to use it again in the future.

This piece is worked in the back loop only and flat. It is then sewn and gathered at the end to create the hat shape. This is just something you can do mindlessly whilst watching tv or listening to music as you get into a repeat with the simple repetition.

I’m happy to report that he does indeed like it and to prove so, he wore it at home for about an hour even though the heating was on!
